![]() “What are we known for in America?” Robert asked the audience. This includes being able to drink your wine immediately, not wait years (sometimes decades) for the wine to settle down. ![]() Opus One was the fruits of their labor, with the first vintage being produced in 1982.Īfter our history lesson, Emmanuel discussed Opus One’s philosophy. Baron realized California was a huge business opportunity, so in 1979 he partnered with Robert with the goal of creating an ultra-premium brand. This event saw a pair of Napa wines take top honors in a blind tasting (beating one of Baron’s own wines), heralding the ‘arrival’ of Napa in the wine world. It was the 1976 “Judgment of Paris” that brought these men together. “Luxury should not be unapproachable,” explained Emmanuel. In an era where it was customary for vineyards to sell to middlemen, both realized they could increase their profitability and control quality by bottling their own wine and selling directly to the public.īoth also pioneered the use of lower-cost wine brands in conjunction with their premium ones, so people could have a taste of Napa or Bordeaux without breaking the bank. Baron came from the family that owned Château Mouton Rothschild, the only estate to be accepted as a “First Growth” Bordeaux winery after the initial Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.īut their legacies were cemented by their ability to bring wine to the masses. Robert was the first person to open a winery in California since prohibition and went on to become known as the ‘father of California wine’. The story of Opus One is really the story of two of the wine industry’s greatest marketers and innovators Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild.īoth came from famous wine families. What I didn’t know is I was getting a full history lesson, as told by one of their brand ambassadors, Emmanuel Padilla. I went in expecting a wine tasting (and some bite-sized snacks). Cab Sauv comprises around 76-86% of the wine, depending on the vintage. While often described as Cabernets Sauvignons, in truth they are left-bank style Bordeaux blends, often using all five noble red grapes. So when owner Jill Erber kicked off the event by describing Opus One as “One of the world’s most iconic wines” she wasn’t joking. Even new releases go for almost $400 a bottle. For many years an Opus One wine held the record as the most expensive California wine ever sold. If you like to drink fancy red wine but never heard of Opus One…you might be living under a rock. But while avidly waiting for their return I saw Cheesetique post an event that might be better – the chance to try a flight of Opus One wines. One of my favorite evening events are their in-person wine and cheese pairings, which have been on pause since COVID. While a second location is in Shirlington the OG store is located in Del Ray, part of a row of cute of mom-and-pop restaurants and boutique stores. If you haven’t visited Cheesetique, you’re missing out.

![]() And due to the nature of this foundation being lightweight, it offers very minimal coverage. Because of the light and fluid texture, this foundation is easy to apply. If you have extremely oily skin and dislike shine on your face, the chances of you liking this foundation is quite slim. ![]() It is infused with micro-shimmers which creates a very luminous finish. The Refining Fluid Foundation is more watery, think along Diorskin Nude and Lancôme Teint Miracle. Great for oily and combination skin types in my opinion as I feel that this foundation offers the best oil-control. It provides full coverage and lasts throughout the day with a semi-matte finish. The Cream Foundation is harder to work with as it dries a little faster than the other two. I have put together a simple comparison chart below for easier reference. I find it extremely helpful because for both cream foundations, you really only need a tiny amount for the entire face. The tube packaging also features a slightly narrower tip which allows you to gain control of the amount of product dispensed. Used to come in a twist-up bottle which is messy. The Cream Foundation now comes in a fuss-free tube just like the Silky Cream Foundation – light, handy and sturdy. The consistency of it is firm and has a certain hold, similar to Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua and Estée Lauder Double Wear Light is slightly thinner.īoth the texture and consistency of the Silky Cream Foundation is very similar to its elder sister from the same family, the Cream Foundation which has also been re-packaged. The texture of this foundation is soft, silky (like the name suggests), smooth and creamy. The Silky Cream Foundation has a very discreet floral scent and it smells slightly different to their Refining Fluid Foundation and Cream Foundation. In January 1985 James Baker became the new Treasury Secretary and Baker's aide Richard Darman became Deputy Secretary of the Treasury. As the dollar's appreciation kept rising and the trade deficit grew even more, the second Reagan administration viewed currency intervention in a different light. At the 1982 G7 Versailles Summit the US agreed to a request by the other members to a study of the effectiveness of foreign currency intervention, which resulted in the Jurgensen Report at the 1983 G7 Williamsburg Summit, but it was not as supportive of intervention as the other leaders had hoped. The French government was strongly in favor of currency intervention to reduce it, but US administration officials such as Treasury Secretary Donald Regan and Under Secretary for Monetary Affairs Beryl Sprinkel opposed such plans, considering the strong dollar a vote of confidence in the US economy and supporting the concept of free market above all else. The tight monetary policy of Federal Reserve's Chairman Paul Volcker and the expansionary fiscal policy of President Ronald Reagan's first term in 1981-84 pushed up long-term interest rates and attracted capital inflow, appreciating the dollar. ![]() These include safety mechanisms, such as an automatic brake to stop movement instantly, anti-jamming systems to prevent stalling caused by trapped branches, and handguards to offer extra protection while working. Many hedge trimmers now come with extra features to make your experience safer and easier. Are there any other features I should look for? For lighter box, privet or lonicera hedges, 15mm will be fine but go upwards of 20mm if you’re dealing with, say, laurel or conifer. The odd thicker branch here and there isn’t a problem – you can usually deal with it using loppers or a pruning saw – but try to tackle a thick conifer hedge with a tool that isn’t up to the job, and you will find you keep stopping and starting as the trimmer jams. This effectively sets how big the branches in your hedge can be and still get cut, so take a good look at your hedges before you decide to go too small. The bigger issue is the space between the teeth of the trimmer, or the maximum cutting width. The sweet spot for most people is usually around 45-55cm, but you may want to go bigger if you have a lot of long or high hedges in need of a trim. However, the bigger the trimmer, the heavier it is, and you will be surprised how much difference a kilogram or two can make when you’re spending an hour or so holding the machine at shoulder height or reaching up to tackle the top of a taller hedge. Generally speaking, bigger is better, especially if you have a lot of hedge to trim. Unless you’ve got endless hedges or you’re a professional gardener, you’re better off with a cordless trimmer these days. You’re looking at a heavier, bulkier piece of equipment that’s more awkward to store and requires more maintenance. They will even tackle thicker branches that would scare off most cordless or electric models. ![]() Petrol hedge trimmers can be used anywhere and will tackle any type, length or number of hedges – as long as you have fuel. In some cases, you may need to buy this separately, anyway. Having said that, charging times are getting shorter and you can get around the problem by buying a second battery or a bigger battery. The biggest negative is battery capacity even today’s lithium-Ion models only run for between half an hour and an hour on a full charge, which means they’re better for small to medium-sized hedges than regular maintenance of a series of long hedges running all around your garden. Cordless hedge trimmers are now getting cheaper, and while there used to be some major limitations in battery life and cutting performance, these seem to be disappearing fast. During the design of the registration screens, it was important to balance the technical limitations of maintaining two different OS platforms, providing appropriate experiences on each OS, and to be considerate of future maintenance support. For the registration screens (which were not using native components), inspiration from the setup dialogs were used to provide a seamless flow from setup to registration. Leveraging existing installation and setup components allowed us to provide the user with a native experience.
